Black Stars left-back Patrick Kpozo has joined Czech Republic outfit Banik Ostrava on a two-year deal from Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspor.

The 25-year-old spent just 18 months with the Moldovan powerhouse after joining from Swedish side Östersund in January 2022 with a series of impressive performances that saw him earn a national team call-up.

Kpozo made 15 league appearances for Sheriff Tiraspor helping them to clinch their eighth consecutive League title while qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. He also played eight times in the UEFA Europa League and twice in the Moldovan Cup.

The former Inter Allies player was initially invited by Black Stars coach Chris Hughton for Ghana’s doubleheader against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in March.

However, he had to wait for the next assignment against Madagascar to make his debut where he earned the praise of many following the substandard performances from the previous performers at the left-back position — Baba Rahman and Gideon Mensah.

Patrick Kpozo is expected to improve the defense of his new club Banik Ostrava following their struggles last season.

They finished 12th in the regular season and succeeded in avoiding demotion after the playoffs.
