The Ministry of Defence has announced that the Board tasked with investigating the recent Z-9 helicopter crash has commenced its work and is expected to submit its report within 30 days.
A statement signed by Acting Defence Minister, Dr. Cassel Ato Forson, said the Board comprises technical experts from the Ghana Air Force, the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Board, and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.:
The investigation will also be supported by visiting personnel from the United States Air Force, and the Board may invite additional local and international experts to assist with the process.
“The United States of America is providing advice and assistant to the board through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force” part of the statement read.
The Board began its work following the submission of preliminary investigation findings on Monday, August 25, 2025.

On August 6, 2025, a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH helicopter (tail number GHF 631) crashed into a forested mountainside in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, killing all eight people on board including two senior cabinet ministers, three government officials and the crew.
