Brandon Thomas-Asante has been handed Ghana’s iconic number 10 jersey for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a significant moment in the striker’s international career ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Coventry City forward inherits one of the most prestigious shirts in Ghanaian football history, previously worn by legendary captain Stephen Appiah at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and more recently by André Ayew at the 2014 and 2022 editions.

Thomas-Asante’s assignment to the number 10 jersey comes after André Ayew was left out of Ghana’s current World Cup squad, ending the veteran forward’s hopes of making a fourth appearance on football’s biggest stage.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent years and heads into the tournament on the back of an impressive season with Coventry City, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League.

Ghana will be hoping Thomas-Asante can live up to the expectations associated with the famous shirt as the Black Stars target a successful World Cup campaign.
