His agreement with the Ghana Football Association was centred on the 2026 FIFA World Cup and included a performance-based extension clause that would have been activated had Ghana reached the quarter-finals.Ghana’s campaign ended in the Round of 32 after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia, meaning the conditions for an automatic extension were not met.Despite the early exit, Queiroz said he believed the Black Stars had restored their standing on the international stage.”To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”The 73-year-old also thanked GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and the Association’s Executive Council for giving him the opportunity to lead the national team.”To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honour and privilege to serve the country and the Black Stars.”Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage after the Black Stars progressed from a difficult Group L before their World Cup journey came to an end against Colombia. His departure leaves the Ghana Football Association searching for a new head coach ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year.
