Burkina Faso will host the zonal phase of the 2026 WAFU B African Schools Football Championship after Nigeria withdrew from staging the Under-15 tournament.
The competition will take place in the capital, Ouagadougou, with the country stepping in as the new host after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ended its involvement.
Nigeria had originally been scheduled to stage the tournament from 6 to 9 December 2026. The change means Burkina Faso will now welcome young teams from across the WAFU B sub-region for the competition organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The African Schools Football Championship is designed to give emerging players the opportunity to display their ability while supporting grassroots football development. It also provides a pathway for young footballers seeking to progress towards the highest levels of the game across the continent.
Teams expected to take part in the WAFU B zonal tournament include Nigeria, Cote dIvoire, Togo, Benin, Niger and hosts Burkina Faso. They will compete for regional honours and the chance to advance towards the continental finals.
Ghana will enter both the boys and girls competitions with its national Under-15 teams.
The girls side, known as the Black Damsels, will arrive as silver medallists from the WAFU B zone and as the defending champions of the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
They will seek to hold on to both titles and extend Ghanas record of success in the competition. Ghanas boys team will also attempt to make a strong impact when they face their regional opponents in Ouagadougou.
The host change follows the NFFs decision to withdraw, with Burkina Faso now responsible for staging the zonal phase of the 2026 tournament.
