Ghanaian coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has been crowned Kenya Premier League Coach of the Season after guiding Gor Mahia to the 2025/26 league title in impressive fashion.

The former Black Stars head coach enjoyed a remarkable campaign in East Africa, leading the Kenyan giants Gor Mahia to the summit of the league with 68 points at the end of the season.

Akonnor’s tactical discipline and leadership were key to Gor Mahia’s consistency throughout the campaign, as they managed to outclass their rivals over the course of a demanding season.

His efforts have now been recognised with the league’s top coaching honour, cementing his growing reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished tacticians.

The award also marks a major milestone in his coaching journey, reflecting his ability to deliver success outside Ghana after previous spells in domestic football.

With the league title secured, Akonnor will now turn his attention to continental football as Gor Mahia prepare to represent Kenya in next season’s CAF Champions League, where expectations will be high following their dominant domestic run.
