The central regional VRDC chairman, Erasmus Asamoah, alongside other delegates, graced the occasion under the theme ‘One Volta, One Voice: Uniting the Diaspora’.

The event attracted scores of opposition NDC sympathizers from across the central region.

Reports suggest that over 51 percent of NDC supporters from the Volta Region live in other communities across Ghana.

Mr. Erasmus Asamoah pointed out that though the Volta Region is seen as the NDC’s ‘world bank’, over 51 percent of its supporters live in other regions across Ghana.

Therefore, he tasked the VRDC members to canvass for John Dramani Mahama and all NDC parliamentary candidates nationwide to win the elections and bring the NDC back to power for good governance and total economic transformation of Ghana. He urged NDC supporters to embrace the VRDC’s ‘Operation Vote Before Noon’ on December 7, 2024.

He encouraged all VRDC members to unite according to their slogan “Volta! Míele duta! Ðekawɔwɔ! Esiae nye míaƒe ŋusẽ!”

He also asked parents to invest in their children’s education for a better future.

The Central Regional Secretary to the Volta Regional Diaspora Caucus, Glato Glakani, noted that the Volta Region has 179 388 supporters living in various villages, towns, and cities outside the Volta region. He said inaugurating the VRDC was to unite these diasporans and promote peace. He appealed to all NDC sympathizers and other floating voters to support the NDC and vote for John Mahama and all NDC parliamentary candidates.

Mr. Glato Glakani accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of using the ‘insignificant’ cedi depreciation and other false allegations in 2015 to blackmail the then-president John Dramani Mahama. He said that although the NPP won the presidential elections in 2016 and 2020 consecutively with candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Ghana has experienced a worse economic performance since independence.

He cautioned the VRDC members to eschew tribalism and promote national cohesion and development.

Mrs. Annan disclosed that the event was also used to train some members in livelihood vocations like beekeeping, soap making, pastries, and the like

The event’s chairman, Professor Samuel Ato Duncan, who doubles as the President General of the Center of Awareness (COA) Global Peace Mission, an NGO, praised the membership for inaugurating the caucus successfully. He used the occasion to advise the VRDC members to seek peace as they work for the Victory of the NDC.

He also pleaded with them to use the appropriate channels to address their grievances.

He was hopeful that peace and tranquility would prevail at the end of the 2024 elections.

At the end of the program, certificates, citations, and other awards were presented to individuals whose contributions have enhanced infrastructural and economic transformation in the Volta Region.
