Veteran Ghanaian media personality Captain Smart has commended the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, over her swift action on a story he reported on about a Ghanaian woman who was attacked by her Chinese employer’s dogs.
Smart, reporting on his show Onua Maakye on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, revealed that a Ghanaian woman had been attacked by dogs owned by her Chinese employers.
He said the attack had left the woman severely mutilated, but despite numerous reports to the police, no action had been taken.
Smart alleged that the police were hesitant to take action on the case due to the Chinese nationality of the perpetrators.
In a follow-up report on the April 16 edition of the show, Captain Smart praised the Gender Minister for taking swift action on the case.
He revealed that following his report, the Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Krowor, reached out to him and asked for the victim’s contact.
Smart added that the Minister has taken over the case and reached out to relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.
Smart was effusive in praise of the Minister, highlighting her as one of the best Ministers in government. He promised her a $100 gift for her swift move in taking over the case to ensure justice is served.
Captain Smart noted that the instances of foreign nationals maltreating their Ghanaian employees must be brought to an end.
The case comes at a time when the government announced foreign nationals who commit crimes in the mining sector would be deported instead of prosecuted. The move infuriated Ghanaians, with many on social media calling for strict actions against any foreigner implicated in ‘galamsey,’ which is destroying the country’s river bodies and forest reserves at an alarming scale.
