Carlos QueirozBlack Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to return to Ghana on Friday, 18 September, with his contract extension set to be signed following his arrival.Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams disclosed this when he appeared before Parliaments Select Committee on Youth and Sports to brief the committee on Ghanas participation in the 2026 Fifa World Cup and Womens Africa Cup of Nations.The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have agreed to retain the Portuguese coach following his role in guiding the Black Stars to the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup in North America.Some members of Queiroz’s backroom staff are already in Ghana as preparations begin for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.The 73-year-old is expected to meet Minister Kofi Adams before his official unveiling, with his extended contract expected to be formalised after his return.Queiroz will now turn his attention to Ghana’s bid to qualify for the 2027 AFCON after the Black Stars missed out on the 2025 tournament in Morocco.Ghana will open their qualifying campaign away against Ivory Coast at the Stade de la Paix in Bouak on 24 September.The Black Stars will then host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 27 September.The failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON ended Ghana’s long-standing run of appearances at the continental tournament and has increased the importance of securing a place at the 2027 finals.
