Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has thrown his support behind Carlos Queiroz, insisting the experienced Portuguese tactician deserves the opportunity to continue as head coach of the Black Stars.
Queiroz was appointed on a short-term contract in April following the dismissal of Otto Addo, with the primary task of leading Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Despite having limited time to prepare the team, the 73-year-old guided the Black Stars to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
His future, however, remains uncertain following Ghana’s elimination in the Round of 32.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, Adams praised Queiroz’s impact on the national team and called for the Ghana Football Association to retain him beyond his initial deal.
“We should give Carlos Queiroz the opportunity to stay a bit longer. He has proven that a coach matters,” the Sports Minister said.
Ghana opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw. The Black Stars then suffered a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final Group C match but progressed to the Round of 32 after finishing among the best third-placed teams.
Their journey ended in the knockout stage, where they were edged 1-0 by Colombia.
Attention will now turn to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Ghana drawn in Group C alongside Cte d’Ivoire, Somalia and The Gambia. The Black Stars are expected to begin their qualification campaign in September.
