CAS sets October hearing for AFCON 2025 final dispute between Senegal, CAF and Morocco

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it will hear the appeal concerning the controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on 8 October 2026 at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.In a media release issued on Friday, CAS announced that the case involves the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), which is appealing against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) over CAF’s decision regarding the AFCON 2025 final.The appeal, which was officially registered by CAS on 25 March 2026, seeks to overturn CAF’s ruling that Senegal forfeited the AFCON 2025 final.CAF subsequently awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory and declared the Atlas Lions champions of Africa.The Senegalese Football Federation is asking CAS to annul that decision and instead declare Senegal as the rightful winners of the 2025 AFCON title.According to CAS, the parties did not agree to fast-track the proceedings, meaning the case is following the tribunal’s standard procedural timetable.The hearing date was fixed after consultations with all parties, who also agreed that the proceedings would not be open to the public.CAS further stated that once the hearing concludes, the arbitration panel will begin its deliberations.However, it emphasized that no final ruling will be delivered on the day of the hearing, and it could not specify when a decision would eventually be announced.The sports tribunal also addressed reports circulating online about the case, warning that inaccurate information has been widely shared.CAS stressed that only information released through its official communication channels should be considered authoritative, with any future announcements on the matter to be published on its official website.The outcome of the October hearing could have major implications for one of the most disputed finals in AFCON history, as Senegal seeks to overturn CAF’s decision and reclaim the continental crown through the highest court in international sport.
