Chereponi Youth Connect (CYC), supported by the Power to You(th) Ghana consortium and its Youth Initiative Small Grant (YISG) programme, has unveiled a new initiative to combat sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the North East Region of Ghana.
The initiative, Chereponi Resilient, is part of the broader Power to You(th) programme, which Norsaac, GH SRHR Alliance, and Songtaba are implementing in Ghana.
The programme targets critical groups, including youth, opinion leaders, and women’s groups, to raise awareness, provide education, and foster community involvement in the fight against SGBV.
The launch of Chereponi Resilient began with community dialogue sessions that brought together opinion leaders and youth groups to introduce the programme and engage in discussions about SGBV.
This was followed by a male engagement forum aimed at increasing awareness among men about SGBV and their role in prevention and response efforts.
The initiative’s strategy includes a community mobilization campaign, radio engagements, a capacity-building workshop for community leaders, women’s groups, selected students, and a Girl Conference.
The conference will gather female students, women’s groups, community leaders, and youth for open discussions on SGBV.
From November 1 to 8, 2024, the initiative will conduct follow-up visits to assess its impact and ensure the sustainability of its interventions.
A comprehensive report documenting successes, challenges, and lessons learned will be produced to guide future efforts.
Chereponi Resilient aims to build a more resilient community by equipping members with the knowledge and tools to prevent and respond to SGBV, ultimately creating a safer environment for all.
