Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says from next year, COCOBOD will pay the fees of all children of cocoa farmers who gain admission to the university.
Addressing chiefs, clergy and Muslim clerics at Odotobri Constituency in the Amansie Central Assembly to mark this year’s Farmers’ Day celebrations, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed confidence this will reduce burden on parents.
“Today, because of the free SHS everybody’s child is attending senior high school for free. Government has taken the decision that from next year, children of cocoa farmers, COCOBOD will pay their university fees for free,” he promised.
For his part, the Chief of Odotobri, Nana Adu Darko expressed concern about the deplorable nature of farmlands in the area.
“All our lands have been devastated, the lands have been affected by climate change which has made farming very difficult. If you can help to fix the lands, we will be very grateful to the incoming president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.
According to him, “All our forest trees have been cut down affecting the growth off trees in the forest and affecting farming as well. We will appeal to government to help us embark on an afforestation drive”.
The NPP flagbearer and vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia assured of new technology to address the deplorable state of the farmlands.
