About twelve security personnel on Wednesday graduated from the maiden Close Protection Training (CPT) held at the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra.
The four-week training in partnership with the Delta Flash Protection Agency (DFPA) forms part of efforts to promote highly skilled professionals, equipped with the requisite knowledge and practical expertise to carry out their duties more professionally and in an advanced manner.
Participants were taken through training in fire protection and firefighting, swimming and surviving skills, threat identification, covert and overt surveillance, and trip and medical intelligence.
They also had training in vehicle and personal security, tactical surveillance and countermeasures, multiple weapon handling, close and distance monitoring, criminal investigation, and acts of terrorism.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the RMU, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jnr explained that the RMU, with over 65 years of experience in maritime education and training in 2022, began the process of diversifying its products.
“One of such processes is the massive and aggressive continuous professional development programmes that would improve upon the skills of the working class, improve their job performance, increase their effectiveness on the job, and improve quality of output,” he stated.
The RMU he said, engaged several industry partners for the provision of specially designed programmes for the common good of the institutions and the country at large.
“Therefore, DFPA’s collaboration was timely and heartwarming as we put together our strength to organize the CPT for various security agencies and personnel,” he stated.
“I am glad to say that the collaboration has been fruitful and hope the programme would be sustained for the benefit of other security agents,” he stressed.
He encouraged the participants to perform credibly to the admiration of the close protection security fraternity and the country at large.
“The RMU is also committed to the collaboration with DFPA to chalk more laurels in upgrading the knowledge and proficiency base of local and international close protection network for the good of all,” he added.
All 12 participants received certificates for their efforts and looking forward to using their newly acquired training to protect lives.
On his part, one of the participants, Tsatsu Asafo Yayra also known as Togbe Agbeti Asafo III of Sokpe said the journey over the past few weeks had been an eye-opener and a transformation for the graduates.
“We would no longer be just carriers of bags for very important personalities but agents that would protect, save lives, and offer the best when it comes to close protection,” he stated.
He proposed that all agencies, government institutions, and security companies would take up the important course and ensure their personnel received the best training.
