Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford praised Kwadwo Obeng Junior for his important goal, saying that his experience helped him take advantage of the opportunity, which a less experienced player might have missed.
Obeng Junior scored the only goal in their Week 9 match against Asante Kotoko, giving the Lions a 1-0 win at Obuasi.
The former Hearts of Oak player scored in the 28th minute after Kotoko’s goalkeeper Mohammed Camara made a mistake with a clearance, leaving the net open for Obeng Junior to score.
This goal earned Heart of Lions all three points and was also their first away win this season. In his comments after the game, Hayford emphasized how important experience is in such moments.
“That’s what we call experience. Experience matters. When he got the ball, he didn’t panic; he noticed the goalkeeper was away from the post, so he took the chance. He did it perfectly because of his experience.
“If it were a younger player, they might have panicked and kicked the ball away,” Hayford explained.
This was Obeng Junior’s first goal of the season and it lifted Heart of Lions to sixth place in the league standings with 14 points. The team hopes to keep this momentum going in the Ghana Premier League.
