Cocoa farmers in Sehwi and other communities in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality have appealed to the chief executive officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Ransford Anertey Abbey, to rescue them from Ghana Bauxite Company’s forceful takeover of their farms.
Farmers in about 10 communities in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region have called on Dr Ransford Anertey Abbey to immediately intervene before the Ghana Bauxite Company converts their farms at Sehwi Atronsu into a refinery station.

The farmers enumerated their challenges during the COCOBOD CEO’s maiden visit to the Western North Region, indicating that the GBC has earmarked their farms for a bauxite refinery, implying that their cocoa farms shall be cut down.
Mr Andrew Asare, a farmer at Atronsu, described the situation as very unfortunate and said it would affect them if the bauxite company had carried out the exercise. He passionately appealed to the CEO to swiftly intervene.
In response, the COCOBOD Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ransford Anertey Abbey (Dr Randy Abbey), pledged commitment to resolve issues within the area.
He called on the farmers to cooperate with COCOBOD to improve the cocoa industry.
