The streets of Ho were vibrantly colourful and filled with excitement as 57 cyclists from 10 different teams participated in the 2025 Tour du Ghana competition in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region.

The three-day event commenced on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, with participants covering an 80-kilometer stretch through the mountainous terrain from Ho to Dzolo, Biakpa, and Fume on Day One.

Many cyclists described the experience as unforgettable, especially since most of them were visiting the region for the first time.

“We love being in the Volta Region; the people and the scenery are wonderful. We really enjoy it here,” said Anthony, a cyclist.

Belgian cyclist Tomas De Neva also shared his thoughts, calling the experience adventurous.

“It is an adventure for us. We enjoy riding here because the roads are better than those in the city of Accra. It’s nice to ride with such beautiful green scenery,” Tomas said.

Day Two unfolded with a different set of challenges as the cyclists tackled the Adaklu mountains, riding through the smooth slopes of the Ahunda/Boso community and capturing stunning views of the landscape.

On the final day of the competition, the cyclists retraced their route from Ho to Fume once more; however, it was the enthusiastic crowds of schoolchildren and local residents lining the roads that truly stole the show, as townspeople turned out in full force to cheer on the riders.

Some spectators expressed their joy at witnessing competitive cycling in their hometown.

“This is a beautiful experience to see these cyclists zoom past,” said 14-year-old student Adzo Mensah.

“I’m so happy to see Ho hosting such a wonderful event,” added Caleb Gbadegbe.

The Tour du Ghana is one of the major events in Ghana’s sporting calendar, promoting cycling and tourism across regions of the country.

This year’s event is held under the theme, “The Black Stars Experience,” aiming to position Ghana as a cycling hub while merging sport, culture, and tourism.

The Regional Secretary of the Volta Regional Cycling Federation, Mr. Amen Amertor, said the region is excited to be part of the 2025 Tour du Ghana competition, and it is expected to inspire local cyclists and attract more visitors and investment.

Tour du Ghana has drawn top cyclists from Ghana, Nigeria, Germany, Benin, Belgium, Burkina Faso, and Togo, with teams earning points as they tackle various stages of the competition.
