Damang Gold Mine Limited’s Community Relations Manager, Ramy Oboro, has disclosed that the company’s planned airstrip is expected to cost at least US$80 million to complete.
Speaking on a special edition of Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme in Tarkwa on Thursday, October 22, Mr Oboro said the estimated cost covered the initial preparation of the land and the construction of the supporting infrastructure required to make the airstrip operational.
He explained that Phase One would involve levelling the land, while Phase Two would focus on constructing the additional facilities and installing the necessary equipment and electrical systems.
These would include a pole to receive signals and other electrical equipment required for the airstrip’s operations.
“It is anticipated that when we are done with the airstrip, it is going to cost us not less than 80 million dollars, both Phase One and Phase Two,” he said.
Mr Oboro added that the final cost could exceed the US$80 million estimate, given the scope of the work and the infrastructure required to complete the project.
“I think it will even go beyond that,” he said.
Background
Damang Gold Mine, formerly operated by Gold Fields Ghana Limited, was handed over to Engineers and Planners in April 2026 after the company won a competitive tender for the concession.
The symbolic handover took place at the mine site on Saturday, April 18, 2026, with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, overseeing the transfer.
The process followed the expiration of Gold Fields’ lease, after which the government put the concession up for competitive tender supervised by the Minerals Commission.
Business mogul and Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, pledged significant infrastructure investments for communities around the Damang Mine following the company’s takeover of operations.
