Ghana’s goalkeepers coach Daniel Gasper has expressed optimism over Lawrence Ati-Zigi’s chances of recovering in time for the Black Stars’ crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup match against England.
The St. Gallen goalkeeper picked up an injury during Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama and has since undergone scans. Reports suggest the 29-year-old is a major doubt for Tuesday’s game in Boston after training separately from the squad on Saturday.
Speaking on the situation, Gasper remained positive about Ati-Zigi’s progress while emphasising a cautious, team-first approach.
“We’re extremely happy with his progress. It’s day by day. Obviously, this is a medical issue collaborated with head coach Carlos Queiroz, so we’ll take it session by session,” he said.
“We’re optimistic, and the decision will be made at the right time. But one thing is for sure, we always stress the team above the individual. Any decision we make is in the best interest of the team.”
The update comes as Ghana prepare for a tough encounter against England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Fans will be hoping for positive news on Ati-Zigi, who has been a key figure for the Black Stars in recent times.
