Chelsea have completed the signing of England and Ghana forward Danny Welbeck from Brighton, with the 35-year-old joining the Premier League club on a contract running until 30 June 2028.
Welbeck, a centre-forward who favours his right foot, made the switch on 1 August 2026 after six years at Brighton. He joined the south-coast club from Watford in October 2020 on a free transfer and went on to establish himself as one of the leagues experienced attacking players.
The Manchester-born striker has made 400 Premier League appearances, scoring 90 goals and providing 38 assists. His top-flight career has included spells with Manchester United, Sunderland, Arsenal, Watford and Brighton.
Welbeck began his senior career at Manchester United after progressing through the clubs youth system. He won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and three English Super Cups with United, as well as the Champions League in 2008 and the Club World Cup in 2009.
He moved to Arsenal in 2014 for 20m and won the FA Cup with the London club in 2015 and 2017. Welbeck also helped Arsenal reach the Europa League final in 2019.
His European record includes 24 Champions League appearances and seven goals, alongside 21 Europa League appearances and six goals. In domestic cup competition, he has scored 11 times in 38 FA Cup appearances and seven times in 31 EFL Cup matches.
Welbecks arrival gives Chelsea an experienced option at centre-forward, while his record at the highest level places him among the more established additions to the clubs squad. He has also played in the Championship, making eight appearances and scoring twice.
The move marks another chapter in a career that began at Manchester United and has included major domestic and European honours in England. Welbeck is now contracted to Chelsea through to the end of June 2028.
