David Beckham is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on 12 June, coinciding with the day the United States play their opening World Cup match in the city.
According to Le Progrès, the ceremony will take place during the tournament hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico and Canada. Actor Tom Cruise and Beckham’s wife, Victoria Beckham, are expected to speak at the event.
Ceremony producer Ana Martinez said the honour reflects Beckham’s influence in boosting football’s popularity in the United States, as well as his wider impact across sport, entertainment and global culture.
