The dean of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School, Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi has said that Ghana’s educational sector is saddled with deep crises.
To him, the delay in releasing the results of the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is a symptom of the deep crisis.
“The delayed release of WASSCE results is symptomatic of deeper crises in the educational sector. Low morale of teachers, politicization, underinvestment and deficit in the facility, etc reflect a system that has been toyed with and we may be on a dangerous precipice!” he wrote on his X page.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has released an additional GHS25 million to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to enable them to release the results.
This announcement comes after reports of delays in the marking process due to financial constraints faced by WAEC.
A statement issued by the Ministry on Monday, December 23 said “The Ministry of Education recognizes the importance of timely WASSCE results for students, parents, and educational institutions,” stated Kwasi Kwarteng, Esq., Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education. “This additional funding will support WAEC’s operations and ensure the smooth and seamless continuation of marking activities.”
WAEC has also responded positively to the government’s support and has assured the Ministry that the 2024 WASSCE results will be released soon. The exact date for the release of the results is yet to be announced, but both the Ministry and WAEC are committed to ensuring a swift and efficient process.
