Do not abuse the trust of your constituents – Bagbin tells members of 9th Parliament

Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of the ninth Parliament under the Fourth Republic has urged the newly sworn-in MPs to be mindful of their responsibilities as political leaders in society.

Congratulating the MPs after administering oath to them, Alban Bagbin underscored the need of the crucial role that political leaders play in the development of society.

He appealed with the MPs not to shirk duties or take light their newly assumed office.

“It is very important for you to keep uppermost in your mind the crucial role of political leadership in the process of national development.

“Today, we are now the political leaders of this country and this honorous responsibility rest with us and I know together we can do it. We have no alternative than to collect together to develop Ghana.

“I will on behalf of your constituents and the good people of Ghana congratulate you all for this achievement. And I trust that you will not abuse the trust and confidence of the people,” Bagbin noted on January 7 during the inauguration of the 9th Parliament.

This Parliament has the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Majority with 183 members (currently) while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has 88 members (So far) with 4 independent candidates.

President-elect John Mahama will also be sworn into office on Tuesday, January 7 2025 at the Independence Square.
