Don’t Allow Media Houses, Bloggers To Get Close To Collation Centers – EC Told | Politics

Bernard Allotey Jacobs has backed the Electoral Commission (EC) to restrict media access to collation centres during the 2024 elections.

The EC, in a memo to its Regional directors, stated that only eight media organizations would be accredited to cover collation activities at constituency centres.

This allocation includes three television stations with two personnel each and five radio stations with one representative each.

For Regional collation centres, 12 media outlets comprising five television stations with two personnel per station and seven radio stations with one representative each would be granted access.

“In the wisdom of the Commission, having eight media houses at the constituency level and twelve at the Regional level is appropriate”, Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the EC, said.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Allotey Jacobs supported the EC’s directive arguing it will help to avoid misinformation and the urge to incite the masses to wreak mayhem.

“Don’t allow the media houses, bloggers and others to get closer to the collation centers. It will be best for us. They shouldn’t be allowed,” he stated.

He, however, advised the Commission to allocate a different place for the media which only the Commissioners will feed them with the right figures.

“Give them a place away from your main collation center and the party reps will be at the collation center at the head office.”
