Aspiring National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, has called for a political culture based on dialogue, consultation and negotiation, warning against confrontational approaches to resolving political disagreements.

Speaking on GBC’s The National Discourse, Dr Oppong-Fosu outlined his Three Rs vision of Restoration, Renewal and Resetting, which he said seeks to reaffirm the party’s founding values and promote a more inclusive approach to political engagement.

Explaining the restoration component, he said the NDC must continually remind itself of its founding principles of probity, accountability and social justice.

He clarified that the call for restoration was not necessarily an admission that the party had abandoned these values, but a reminder of the principles that define its identity and the expectations of Ghanaians.

On renewal, Dr Oppong-Fosu said politics should not be treated as a theatre of war, stressing that disagreements must be addressed through calm engagement rather than confrontation.

“Let’s not turn the public zone into a war zone ” he noted.

According to him, political actors must avoid escalating issues unnecessarily and instead embrace consultations and negotiations to resolve differences.

He also emphasised the need to reset the party’s structures to ensure that grassroots members feel recognised and included in its activities.

Dr Oppong-Fosu said no branch should be considered too small, arguing that members must be recognised according to their contributions, skills and competencies.

He explained that his vision seeks to strengthen the party’s identity, encourage peaceful political engagement and build structures that allow members at all levels to participate meaningfully.

The Three Rs vision forms part of Dr Oppong-Fosu’s bid to become the NDC’s National Chairman.
