A former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Dr Kwame Agyeman-Budu, graduated from the LIGS University in Hawaii, USA, with PhD.
Dr Kwame Agyeman-Budu, who hails from Ejisu in the Ashanti region, has pursued his Doctorate program in Project & Strategic Management, and he has completed successfully.
In a congratulatory message from his wife, children, and family, they wished him well in his future endeavors.
They stated in a citation in his honor that: “Congratulations: It is with great pleasure and admiration that we congratulate you in earning your PhD in Project & Strategic Management. You have indeed demonstrated exceptional commitment and diligence in pursuing this highest level of academic excellence. We wish you more higher heights in your future endeavors and aspirations.”
Dr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu has been in the energy industry for over 35 years, 28 yrs in the US, and 7 yrs in Ghana).
Dr. Agyeman-Budu undertook his primary education at Asafo Division Elementary School in Kumasi (near Baba Yara Sports Stadium) and Ejisuman Secondary School in Ejisu. He pursued a Professional Teacher’s Certificate Education at Wesley College also in Kumasi. He then taught and completed his 2-yrs National Service at Effiduase Secondary Commercial School (Effisco) from 1984 – 1986. After serving his compulsory 2-yrs National Service, he traveled to London, UK in 1986. He moved from UK in 1987 to USA.
He continued his education in the US, where he attained both professional and academic qualifications. Among them are MS in Energy Management with Distinction and Certificate in Facilities Management all at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in Long Island, New York, Bachelor in Telecommunications and Associate in Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology at New York City Technical College (NYCTC), Brooklyn, New York.
He has since managed several projects, including projects at Consolidated Edison Company (Con Edison) of New York, the largest utility company in the US, which serves Electricity, Gas, and Steam to millions of consumers in New York City, and Rockland & Orange County.
Dr Agyeman-Budu’s years of experience in the energy industry spans in the areas of Energy Consulting, Strategic Formulation, Implementation, and Evaluation & Control on Organizational Performance, Distributed Generation (Combined Heat & Power–CHP), Solar Energy (Photovoltaic), Advanced Battery, Windmill, Fuel Cell Technologies, Alternate Energy, Environmental Audits and Monitoring, Environmental Risk Assessment, Power Plant Systems, Smart Grid Systems, and Systems Engineering and Management.
Kwame Agyeman-Budu was appointed as the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on 7th Nov, 2019, and retired on 17th May, 2022.
Before he was appointed, Dr Agyeman-Budu was the Deputy Managing Director at ECG in charge of Corporate Services, from 1st Jan, 2018, till 6th Nov, 2019.
