Ghanaian rapper and music executive D-Black has taken a lighthearted trip down memory lane, reflecting on the notorious Dr. UN fake awards scandal that shook the nation in 2020.

Marking the anniversary of the incident, the Black Avenue Muzik boss shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: “5 years ago today Dr UN take chuk wona eye. Facebook just kai me.” In another post, he jokingly added: “Sometimes I de think and take back my forgiveness. Champion the award show nu, I almost go plus my momee o.”

The scandal, orchestrated by Kwame Owusu Fordjour, widely known as Dr. UN, saw him host a bogus awards ceremony at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. Dubbed the “7th Global Leadership Service to Humanity Awards,” the event falsely claimed endorsement from the United Nations and the Kofi Annan Foundation.

Several high-profile figures fell victim, including Sarkodie, Berla Mundi, D-Black, and even political leaders such as Alban Bagbin. With its grand presentation, the awards initially appeared credible, but media scrutiny quickly exposed the deception, turning it into one of Ghana’s biggest social media talking points.

The episode not only embarrassed its recipients but also cemented Dr. UN’s status as one of Ghana’s most audacious conmen. Five years on, the memory still lives on—especially for those who were duped. For D-Black, the sting of the hoax may have softened, but as his humorous reflection shows, the embarrassment is hard to completely forget.
