Canadian rapper Drake has won more than $230,000 after Canada defeated South Africa 1-0 at the FIFA World Cup on Sunday, successfully landing a seven-figure sports bet he placed before kick-off.
Drake revealed on Instagram that he wagered $770,000 on Canada to advance, with the bet returning just over $1 million following the victory.
Before the match, the rapper joked that he had increased the size of the bet after receiving messages from South African DJ Black Coffee. Sharing a screenshot of the wager, Drake wrote that the exchange had prompted him to “raise the stakes.” Canada’s win secured the co-host nation’s place in the Round of 16, keeping its World Cup campaign alive.
Drake has become well known for publicly sharing high-value bets through his partnership with online gambling platform Stake. He has previously placed wagers on major sporting events, including the NBA Finals, UFC bouts, boxing matches and international football tournaments, regularly posting both his wins and losses on social media.

The latest win comes months after Bloomberg Businessweek published an investigation into Drake’s gambling activity on Stake, alleging he enjoyed unusually high success rates on some games. Stake rejected the claims, describing the report as “categorically incorrect,” while co-founder Ed Craven denied suggestions that celebrity partners receive preferential treatment. The company has also faced legal challenges in the United States, including lawsuits alleging it operates as an illegal online casino. Drake, who reportedly signed a $100 million endorsement deal with Stake in 2022, has been named in one lawsuit as a paid promoter of the platform.
