The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to prioritize efforts in regaining the trust of its customers.

The Minister made this charge during visits to ECG’s Customer Service Offices in Koforidua, Akyem Tafo, and the Somanya district.

Expressing concern over the volume of complaints received from ECG customers, Hon. Awatey urged the power distribution company to expedite the resolution of these issues, aiming for resolution within hours rather than days.

She assured the ECG management teams of her and the government’s support in achieving these targets

Meanwhile, Ing. Tetteh Apan, ECG’s Somanya District Manager, has refuted allegations that the newly introduced smart meters are intended to exploit customers.

His statement comes in response to numerous complaints regarding the consumption rates recorded by these meters, which are being rolled out under the Loss Reduction Programme (LRP).

Ing. Apan assured the public that smart meters are designed to enhance accuracy and efficiency, not to disadvantage consumers.

Adding his voice to the matter, Ing. Emmanuel Antwi Addo of the ECG Tafo Branch stated that the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Eastern Region is actively collaborating with key stakeholders in the energy sector to find a sustainable solution to the ongoing energy challenges in the region.

He appealed to Ghanaians for patience and understanding during these trying times as the company works with its partners to resolve the issues. Ing. Antwi Addo emphasized that the company empathizes with the difficulties faced by its customers in the region.
