The Electoral Commission has said that it will declare all votes cast for the late Akua Donkor in the December 7 presidential election as rejected ballots.
This is contained in a press release dated November 22, 2024.
“In view of the fact that the image and Party logo of the late Madam Akua Donkor remain on the 2024 Presidential Ballot Paper, the Commission has decided that all votes cast in favour of Madam Akua Donkor will he counted as Rejected Ballots. Votes cast in favour of Madam Akua Donkor will NOT be added to the Valid Votes Cast,” the statement signed by Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, stressed.
“The Commission wishes to inform the General Public accordingly. The Commission’s permanent and temporary staff as well as Agents of the Presidential Candidates have been informed,” it added.
The Presidential Candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra on Monday, October 28 after a short illness.
Efforts by the party to replace her proved futile as her then running mate, Kwabena Agyekum Appiah-Kubi, was disqualified due to some “illegalities ” on his nomination forms, according to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa.
