ECOWAS Commission engages in high-level discussions with FCDO Director General

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, has welcomed officials of the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, FCDO, led by Madam Harriet Mathews, the Director General for Africa and the Americas, to the ECOWAS headquarters.

The meeting on Tuesday in Abuja aimed to bolster the partnership between the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, FCDO, and ECOWAS in development cooperation, focusing on strengthening collaboration in West Africa’s initiatives. 

H.E Harriet Mathews emphasised interest in Sahel’s preparedness and West Africa’s transitions, stressing coordinated efforts.

She highlighted the importance of Mr. Touray’s leadership style, particularly in Niger and Sierra Leone.

The president of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Omar Alieu Touray, expressed gratitude for the dialogue.

He briefed the delegation on recent developments, including the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger from ECOWAS. He emphasised ECOWAS’s commitment to dialogue, democratic governance, and the rule of law for regional stability and prosperity.
