Ed Sheeran has been fined after being convicted of failing to insure his classic Aston Martin while it was undergoing restoration and conversion into an electric vehicle.
The singer-songwriter, 35, pleaded guilty to keeping a vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements after the DVLA identified the issue in December 2025. Sheeran told Bradford Magistrates’ Court in a written statement that he believed the workshop handling the restoration had insurance cover for the vehicle.
The 1966 silver Aston Martin had been with a workshop in Durham since 2021 and, according to Sheeran, had not been driven on public roads during that period. He said the car remained under the workshop’s control, was not operational and was still being converted into an electric vehicle.
The court ordered Sheeran to pay a £666 fine, £100 in costs and a £266 victim surcharge. He described the matter as a “genuine administrative misunderstanding” and apologised for using court resources, adding that he would have paid the earlier out-of-court penalty had he received the notice.
