Manchester City’s title hopes have taken a hit as goalkeeper Ederson will miss their Premier League title decider and the upcoming FA Cup final due to a fractured eye socket.

The Brazil international sustained the injury during Tuesday’s 2-0 league win against Tottenham Hotspur after a collision with Cristian Romero, prompting his substitution in the 69th minute.

With City needing a win against West Ham United on Sunday to secure their fourth consecutive Premier League title, or to match Arsenal’s result against Everton, Ederson’s absence comes as a significant setback.

Stefan Ortega, who replaced Ederson during the Spurs game and made crucial saves, is set to deputise for the final two fixtures. Ortega has been a reliable backup for City, having played in every round of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup over the past two seasons.

The injury also means Ederson will miss the FA Cup final clash against Manchester United on May 25 at Wembley Stadium, further complicating City’s quest for silverware this season.

Despite the setback, City remain determined to secure victory against West Ham and defend their Premier League title. Meanwhile, their city rivals Manchester United stand in their way in the FA Cup final as they seek to salvage their season with a trophy win.

Arsenal, vying for the Premier League for the first time in 20 years, will be hoping that City’s absence of Ederson will hinder their title bid, as they look to capitalise on any slip-up from the leaders.

The injury comes at a crucial moment for City, who are eager to maintain their dominance in English football and secure a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title.
