Egypt claimed their first-ever victory at the FIFA World Cup after defeating New Zealand 3-1 in their second Group L match at BC Place.

Portland Timbers defender Finn Surman gave the All Whites an early lead in the 15th minute, putting New Zealand ahead early in the contest.

However, Egypt turned the game around dramatically in the second half. Mostafa Ziko, Mohammed Salah, and Mahmoud Trezeguet all found the net to complete a convincing comeback and secure a vital three points for the Pharaohs.

The win comes after Egypt drew 2-2 with Belgium in their opening game. In their fourth appearance at the World Cup, the North Africans have finally broken their duck, significantly boosting their chances of advancing from the group stage.

The result marks a historic moment for Egyptian football as they celebrate their maiden World Cup victory.

Egypt will face Iran in their final group game on June 27, while New Zealand take on Belgium on the same day.
