Election Watch Ghana Demands Release of Provisional Voter Register

On Monday, August 19, Election Watch Ghana, an advocacy group, assembled at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters to demand the immediate release of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) to political parties.

This call for action comes in response to the EC’s delay in publishing the PVR, a requirement stipulated by the Constitutional Instrument for the 2024 elections.

Despite previous assurances from the EC regarding the release schedule, the delay has caused substantial concern among various stakeholders, particularly the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other parties involved in the upcoming general elections.

Mark Ewusi, Convenor of Election Watch Ghana, addressed the media outside the EC headquarters, criticizing the delay for compromising the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.

“According to the Electoral Commission’s calendar, tomorrow is designated for the voter register exhibition. Political parties must access the provisional register to scrutinize it before the exhibition begins,” Ewusi said.

He further expressed frustration that the commissioners and staff at the EC headquarters had yet to resume work upon their arrival.

“We arrived here expecting to receive the provisional register and found that the relevant officials were not present.

This situation undermines the trust and preparation needed for a fair electoral process,” Ewusi added.
