Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has revealed that the club is still looking to strengthen the squad and expects at least two more players to arrive before the start of the new season.
Tinkler made the revelation after Kotoko defeated Heart of Lions 1-0 in a pre-season friendly at the University of Ghana Stadium warm-up pitch on Tuesday.
The Porcupine Warriors have already undertaken a major squad overhaul following their eighth-place finish last season, with several players leaving as the club looks to build a stronger team.
Kotoko have spent nine days in Accra, where they have been working on their tactical approach after beginning their preparations in Kumasi.
Tinkler, however, believes the squad is not yet ready despite making progress during the past four and a half weeks.
No, there’s, you know, you can never say your team is ready. You know, we’ve been working, what is it now, just over four and a half weeks. A lot of new faces, as I said, he said.
The South African coach says the new players still need time to understand his tactical demands, while identifying areas that require further reinforcement.
We’re still looking to try and strengthen the squad in one or two areas where we think that we are still lacking. So, there should still be at least, excuse me, another two players coming in, Tinkler added.
Kotoko will continue their preparations before returning to Kumasi for the Democracy Cup against Hearts of Oak on August 28.
