The founder and general overseer of the Resurrection Power New Generation Church,Rev.Anthony Boakye was laid to rest last weekend in a three-day ceremony that was attended by thousands of people, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The funeral was held at three different venues in Accra: the Independence Square, the Accra Sports Stadium, and the Accra International Conference Center (AICC).
Long queues stretched outside the venues as well-wishers, sympathizers, and family members of the late priest gathered to celebrate his life.
The funeral was also marked by controversy. Before and after his death, there had been rumors that Boakye had fallen out with his wife, Rev. Mrs. Margaret Boakye.
There were also rumors that his wife had wanted to take over their church while he was sick and bedridden for months.These rumors escalated after Boakye’s death, and his widow was banned from attending the One Week Celebration of his death.
She was also barred from attending the funeral, but this time she did not sit without a fight.Rev. Mrs. Boakye resorted to the courts and was able to secure two injunctions on the funeral.
However, these injunctions were not enough to stop the extravagant celebration of the late renowned priest.The funeral was a lavish affair, with a state-of-the-art final resting place for Boakye.
