The family of former Black Stars striker, Raphael Dwamena, has faced setbacks in holding a befitting funeral for their departed loved one.
Originally scheduled for Friday at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf in East Legon, the ceremony encountered a stand-off, prompting the family to hold another service on Saturday, February 17.
The conflict emerged between Dwamena’s paternal and maternal families, casting a shadow over the proceedings.
Sources suggest that certain disagreements within the deceased family contributed to the disruption. Notably, tensions arose regarding the provision of the shroud for the corpse, with the family asserting that the wife and her family lacked the right to undertake this responsibility according to Onua Sports.
Friday’s ceremony, which took place under the patronage of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), witnessed controversy at the Transitions Funeral Homes as Dwamena’s family clashed with his wife. This clash caused a significant delay, leading to a standoff at the funeral homes for hours.
Speaking on Maakye on Onua TV, Yvonne Dwamena, sister to the late footballer, indicated that the family has decided to proceed with their funeral on Saturday, emphasising the need to address the internal conflicts. This implies a different ceremony to be held to the satisfaction of Dwamena’s family.
