Actress and producer Yvonne Nelson has revealed that she faced major setbacks in Ghana’s film industry after being banned by the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG).

Speaking on The Career Trail on JoyNews, she said her outspokenness was the main reason behind the ban.

“I was banned by a group of men who didn’t like that I spoke out. They wanted to silence me,” she said.

Despite the ban, Yvonne launched her own company, YN Productions, and began making her own films with support from people like Kelvin Kobiri, who financed her first few projects.

Her journey, however, wasn’t without obstacles. She recalled how armed robbers stole her first production from the editor’s studio, which she suspects was a deliberate attempt to derail her progress.

Still, she pushed through and has since produced 14 films, including Kotoka and Heels and Sneakers. Her next movie, Summer, is expected to be released soon.

Reflecting on her path, Yvonne said the industry can be tough: “It’s not easy. There is love and hate, but if you are not strong, you won’t survive.”
