The first flight from Ghana to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this year’s pilgrimage is scheduled to take off from the Tamale Airport this evening.

The flight, carrying about four hundred and thirty (450) pilgrims is the first of about six flights expected to take off from Tamale.

Though attempts to gather more information from the Hajj board have been difficult, an agent in Tamale, Alhaji Inusah Amadu has revealed that, check-in formalities will begin after midday with the first flight expected to take off around 8pm.

Everything is perfect inshallah. Nobody will pay this year and will not go, everybody will go. We have enough visas, and we have enough time too and the flights are there,” Alhaji Inusah emphasized.

Departure formalities started around 2pm at the Tamale Airport.

GBC news correspondent at the Tamale Hajj village observed that, this year’s departure formalities are significantly more relaxed than last year, when concerns over covid-19 was rife.
