Five Elmina Sharks officials have been fined GHS 10,000 each and suspended for the rest of the season by the Ghana Football Association for misconduct. The officials, George Wiredu, Seth Armstrong, Kelvin Aboagye, Joshua Kyibazah and Kingsley Arthur, were found guilty of misconduct during a league match against Swedru All Blacks United FC on February 16, 2025.

The officials were accused of unlawfully invading the field of play to confront match officials over a penalty decision, inciting violence, and attempting to assault referees after the game. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) took a strong stance against the officials’ behaviour, imposing severe sanctions to maintain discipline and fair play in the sport.

The punishment includes a ban from all football-related activities for the remainder of the current season. The officials have also been warned that any further misconduct will attract even more severe sanctions. The GFA’s decision serves as a deterrent to other officials and players, emphasizing the importance of respecting match officials and maintaining sportsmanship.

The incident underscores the need for stricter regulations and enforcement in Ghanaian football. The GFA’s swift action in imposing sanctions demonstrates its commitment to upholding the integrity of the sport. As the season progresses, fans and officials alike will be watching closely to ensure that the rules are respected and the game is played fairly.
