Former General Secretary of the Conventions People’s party (CPP), Dr. Kwabena Bonfeh has issued a word of caution to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the latter’s announcement of the use of drones to monitor elections proceedings at the various polling centers in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Dr. Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, questioned the rationale behind the flying of drones during elections.
According to Kabila, the flying of drones will distort the functions of the security state agency.
“What is the purpose of the drone? We can’t have parallel security intelligence agency. If there is any monitoring to be done, it is the responsibility of the state security apparatus not the security task force of any political party,” he said.
He added that if all political parties decide to fly drones, the security of the country will be compromised.
“If all political parties decide to fly drones, what benefit will that be? Are party agents not enough? Don’t you trust your political party agents?”
“Let’s work in the confines of the constitution and the electoral laws,” he added.
This call came after the Greater Accra regional Chairman of the NDC stated their intention to fly drones during the December general elections in order to monitor the elections.
Dr. Kabila called NDC to order while sharing his opinion on Peace FM’s ‘kokrokoo’ morning show on Wednesday, March 14 on NDC’s intention to fly drones to monitor the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Dr. Kwabena Bomfeh consented to the monitoring of elections but added that all stakeholders are required to do what is backed by the constitution.
