Thomas Duanab Wuni Pearson, former District Chief Executive for Talensi, has declared his steadfast backing for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating he would support the former Vice President “ten times over” if given the opportunity.
In an interview with Dreamz FM in Bolgatanga, Pearson positioned Bawumia as the NPP’s strongest potential flagbearer, dismissing other rumored aspirants.
“If they present him ten times, I’ll vote for him ten times. I know his capabilities,” Pearson asserted, acknowledging the party’s 2024 electoral setback but maintaining faith in Bawumia’s leadership potential. “When he gets the chance to lead this country, his true worth will be evident,” he added, suggesting external factors had hindered previous performances.
Pearson framed his endorsement as a pragmatic choice, arguing no superior alternative exists within the party. “Bawumia remains our best option we’re rallying behind him again,” he said, alluding to Ghana’s historical difficulty for parties securing consecutive eight-year terms. His comments highlight ongoing internal debates about the NPP’s future direction following its recent electoral defeat.
The remarks underscore persistent divisions within the party as it regroups after losing power. While Pearson’s enthusiasm reflects residual loyalty to Bawumia’s camp, it also signals the challenges ahead in unifying the NPP behind a single vision for political resurgence. With the next election cycle already sparking succession discussions, such declarations may influence early positioning among the party’s factions.
