In an exciting finale, Frederick Lokko of Covenant Presby Preparatory School has been crowned the winner of the 2024 Literacy Challenge, replacing Dzikunu Nelson of Jireh International School in Accra.
Frederick’s mother was overwhelmed with joy, lying prostrate as her son was announced the winner.
Launched on May 16, 2024, the Literacy Challenge, organized by Citi FM/Channel One TV, aimed to reward the most outstanding student with GH¢10,000, a trophy, and other goodies.
This year’s contest saw over 1,000 Junior High School students submit essays on the topic “The role of the youth in shaping the future of Ghana. What changes would you like to see, and how can young people contribute to making them happen?”
After a rigorous selection process, including an aptitude test and four rounds of competition, Fredrick Lokko emerged victorious with 63 points, taking home GH¢10,000, a trophy, six months’ supply of Webie Crunchy Biscuit, and other prizes.
The Literacy Challenge has been promoting literacy among Ghanaian students since 2017.
The Literacy Challenge 2024 is powered by Citi FM, with support from Channel One TV, and sponsored by Ghana National Gas Company, Alife Soap, Fortune Spread for Bread by Wilmar Africa Limited, Webie Biscuits by M4 Foods, and Prospectus Ghana Limited.
