Gabby Challenges NDC to Prove Corruption Claims Against Akufo-Addo

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Mahama, to provide evidence of corruption involving President Nana Akufo-Addo and his associates that rivals the Airbus scandal.

In response to Kissi Agyebeng’s recent comments, Ghana’s Special Prosecutor Otchere-Darko accused the NDC of using unsubstantiated claims and a fictional book, “Agyapadeɛ,” to criticize the current administration.

He questioned the opposition’s reliance on these sources rather than credible evidence to support their allegations against Akufo-Addo and his family.

Otchere-Darko criticized the NDC for its ongoing allegations and demanded that they present a clear case of corruption involving the current president or his family, which matches the magnitude of the Airbus scandal.

The Airbus case involved the multinational company’s admitting to bribery with Ghanaian government officials.

The Airbus scandal centres on Ghana’s purchase of three C295 military aircraft from Airbus.

These transactions were funded through substantial loans from Deutsche Bank SAE, Fidelity Bank Ghana Ltd, and the Brazilian Development Bank, totalling significant sums for aircraft and related infrastructure.

Despite the controversy surrounding the deal, Otchere-Darko argued that the NDC has yet to demonstrate comparable corruption within the Akufo-Addo administration.

Otchere-Darko’s challenge underscores a broader political debate over the legitimacy of corruption claims and the effectiveness of Ghana’s current and past administrations in handling public funds and official conduct.
