The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed former Ghana international Godwin Attram as an assistant coach of the Black Stars, as part of efforts to strengthen the technical team ahead of upcoming international assignments.Attram replaces Desmond Ofei, who will now concentrate fully on his responsibilities as head coach of Ghanas U23, the Black Meteors.The appointment forms part of the GFAs ongoing technical restructuring as the Black Stars prepare for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as well as other major international assignments on the horizon.Attram brings considerable experience to the Black Stars technical setup, having enjoyed a successful playing career before moving into coaching and player development.The former Ghana midfielder made his name as an attacking player and enjoyed spells with European clubs including PSV Eindhoven and Silkeborg IF. His experience playing at a competitive level in Europe is expected to add valuable insight to the Black Stars technical team.At international level, Attram represented Ghana and brings an understanding of the demands and expectations associated with playing for the national team.After hanging up his boots, Attram transitioned into coaching and continued to develop his football knowledge. He previously served as head coach of Great Olympics and has also worked within various structures involving Ghanas national youth teams.His experience in developing young players and his modern approach to football have earned him recognition within Ghanas football circles.Attrams arrival is expected to complement the work of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz as Ghana prepares for a crucial period in its international football calendar.The Black Stars are set to begin their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with an away fixture against neighbours Ivory Coast on September 24 before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.Meanwhile, Ofei will now dedicate his full attention to the Black Meteors after previously combining his Black Stars assistant coaching role with responsibilities within Ghanas youth national teams.Ofei had worked with the Black Satellites before taking charge of the Black Meteors, and his new arrangement will allow him to focus exclusively on the U23 side as they prepare for the next Olympic Games qualification campaign.The GFA believes the restructuring will provide greater clarity within Ghanas national team setup while allowing the respective technical teams to focus fully on their individual assignments.Attrams appointment therefore marks a new chapter in the Black Stars technical structure, with the former midfielder now tasked with supporting Queiroz as Ghana seeks success in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers and future international competitions.
