The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in collaboration with the KGL Foundation, has launched the 5th edition of the prestigious KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship. The ceremony, held at the KGL House in Labone, Accra, underscores Ghana’s commitment to grassroots football development and talent discovery. Top officials from the GFA, executives of the KGL Foundation, and key stakeholders in youth football attended the event.

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku expressed heartfelt gratitude to the KGL Foundation for its unwavering support over the past five years, stating, “Your investment is a bold statement of belief in Ghana’s future.”

The Foundation’s support has been instrumental in nurturing young talent, with several current U-17 national team players discovered through the tournament. The championship has become a cornerstone of Ghana’s youth football development, with past participants thriving at both national and club levels.

The KGL Foundation’s Chief Executive, Elliot Dadey, highlighted the organisation’s broader mission of youth empowerment through sport. “We’ve helped turn football into a viable path for these young boys to chase their dreams,” he said. The Foundation has invested in kits, equipment, training, and a belief system, fostering a movement grounded in community and passion. Each of the 10 participating football regions will receive fifty footballs, two sets of cones, two sets of bibs, and two sets of match jerseys.

The tournament will feature teams from all 10 football regions, with young, trained referees officiating the games in line with the GFA’s Catch Them Young policy. The Western Region enters the 2025 edition as defending champions, following their 2–1 victory over the Eastern Region in last year’s final.

The 5th edition is scheduled to kick off in July 2025, with renewed optimism that it will uncover the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.
