Nathaniel Adjei delivered a solid defensive display as FC Lorient secured their Ligue 1 status with a 2-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille on Saturday.The centre-back played the full 90 minutes and finished with four clearances, one recovery and an impressive 97 percent pass accuracy (30/31), underlining a composed performance at the back as Lorient kept Marseille at bay.The win ensured Les Merlus will remain in Ligue 1 next season, ending a three-game winless run and extending their strong home form to 14 matches without defeat.Lorient took control in the first half when Panos Katseris capitalised on a loose ball to fire past Gernimo Rulli after good work from Bamba Dieng. The hosts absorbed pressure after the break, with Marseille pushing through Timothy Weah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and others, but goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo and the defence, marshalled by Adjei, stood firm.Dieng later sealed the result with a composed chip to make it 2-0, condemning Marseille to another away defeat and leaving their European hopes under threat.For Adjei, the performance marks another step forward in his return to full fitness. The 23-year-old has made 11 league appearances this season after missing 33 games last term due to ankle problems.With consistent minutes now returning, the defender is aiming to rebuild form and push for a place in Ghanas squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
