Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has called for a long-term plan and building for Black Stars rather than focusing on winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).His remarks come following the senior national team’s elimination from the ongoing 2026 World Cup.Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Colombia in their Round of 32 game, with Jhon Arias scoring the only goal in the first half.Speaking on Joy Prime, the former Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics winger has called for a long-term project for the team.According to him, the current playing body does not have what it requires to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to put in place the right measures for the long term.We shouldnt be thinking about winning the AFCON because we do not have a team, Kingston said.Although the Black Stars reached the World Cup knockout stage for the first time since 2010, their campaign ended in the Round of 32.The four-time African champions will now shift their focus to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
