Ghana international midfielder Elisha Owusu is set to leave French club AJ Auxerre and join newly promoted Turkish Super Lig side Erzurumspor on a permanent transfer, according to French sports newspaper L’Equipe. The 28-year-old midfielder is reportedly on his way to Turkiye to complete the move, bringing an end to his three-and-a-half-year spell with Auxerre.Owusu, who was under contract with the French club until June 2027, will reportedly join Erzurumspor in a deal worth 1 million Euros, excluding potential bonuses.Auxerre are therefore set to make a profit on the player, having signed him from Belgian side Gent for around 500,000 Euros in January 2023.The Ghanaian quickly established himself as an important figure at Auxerre and was handed the captaincy, becoming one of the key leaders within the squad. He captained the club until the end of last season before his future became uncertain. His departure comes despite having one year remaining on his contract and comes as Auxerre continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new campaign.Owusu was notably left on the bench during Auxerres most recent friendly against Werder Bremen on Saturday, a 1-0 victory, further indicating that he was nearing an exit.Erzurumspor, meanwhile, have secured promotion to the Turkish Super Lig and see Owusu as an experienced addition capable of strengthening their midfield ahead of their return to the top flight. The move will give Owusu a new challenge after several seasons in French football, where he featured prominently for Auxerre and continued to be part of the Ghana national team setup. The transfer is expected to be completed once the midfielder undergoes his medical and finalises personal terms with the Turkish club.
